Grace F. — Founder

I am a freshman/rising sophomore at Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts. I considered publishing Freeman Review anonymously, because Freeman Review is about a mission to help others through writing and art, not about any one person. My idea for Freeman Review came about when my father and I were at a coffee shop, and we were discussing my plans for the summer of 2024. I love writing, and I planned on doing that over the summer. I also planned on doing community service through my church and in other ways. We talked about a blog, or a website that published just writing from young contributors, but such a site already exists, namely the great Adroit Journal, so I rejected that idea. I wanted to combine my time writing with time spent doing community service. I thought that there must be other young people like me who want to write or create other art, but do community service as well. My answer as to how to combine my two passions was to create a simple website to publish work that offers inspiration for the reader, giving the reader the chance to help others by donating money through a link to a charity at the end of every submission. The contributor picks their charity, and, with a link, it is then easy for the reader to donate in recognition of the contributor’s work. So once we had the concept, my dad and I talked about names and design ideas. Dad then found out about the old Concord Freeman. We decided to use the old Concord Freeman for our website design. We also liked the old Freeman’s Latin motto, so Dad researched and found Latin words for own motto. Dad then designed the site using Squarespace (it’s pretty easy), he wrote the text for the Home, Submission Guidelines and Donate pages, and he did all the legal filings to bring Freeman Review to life. I wrote the text for the About Us and Masthead page. Before we published, I reviewed and edited the content on the rest of the pages to make sure that the content on Freeman Review was in line with my vision to have a platform that allows young people to share their creative work to help someone who needs it with hope that it inspires our readers to give to the very worthy charities on our Donate page. We will be a work in progress, and we hope you reach out if you want to submit or join Freeman Review in our mission to share art to help others through inspiration and donations to charity. Thank you for visiting Freeman Review.
